People often ask me where I stay when I am in NY, and the truth is I have been staying all over town, from Union Square up to a 103rd street, in hostels and hotels, and at my friend´s old apartment.
A lot of the times I have been going to NY by myself, and it is pretty expensive to pay for a hotel room for just one person, so I have been staying at a couple of hostels, and happily so.
This last time, in October 2011 both the hostels I have stayed in before were not available for online booking, one was under construction and the other was just busy, busy..not getting through, so I ended up at the POD hotel, in a single room with shared bath. I chose not to stay at a dorm because I am growing up and should be able to pay for my own room..ha ha.
I have stayed at the POD hotel once before, and I knew it was nice and clean. The twin rooms are very small but I think the single room had a good size. I paid about 1000 NOK per night, or 160 USD, so it was not cheap. It has free Wi-Fi and a nice rooftop terrace with a good view. The location is excellent, close to Grand Central. I would recommend this hotel if you don´t bother with space!
The very colorful elevator.
In my room there was a sign showing me when the toilet/shower was busy.
Nice paintings on the walls and doors.
