NY Metro

I often buy a one week Metro card when I am in NY. That way I can use the underground as much as I want. It is a good thing once you realize just how BIG Manhattan really is, and also for exploring its neighborhood Brooklyn. 

I love the underground art on the tiles at some of the stations. 

Solomon R. Guggenheim museum

New York is packed with great museums, but I think the Solomon R. Guggenheim museum has a really interesting exterior and interior. If you are not a museum person, it is still worth a visit just to see the great building.

The Roerich museum

On 319 W 107th street you will find the Roerich museum. Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947) was born and educated in St. Petersburg, Russia.

His paintings in the museum covers the full scope of his artistic output, from ancient Slavic, mythic and archaeological subjects to breathtaking Himalayan landscapes and religious themes that span the spiritual traditions of the world (words by Jaqueline Decter with the N.R museum).

It was my boyfriend who introduced me to the museum as he is a big Roerich fan. The building looks like an old villa, very nice. It is worth a visit.

Museum opening hours: 2-5 pm Tue-Sun, closed Mon.

Out and about

I can no longer remember where I saw these two statues in a park. The pictures are from one of my earlier trips. But if I should guess, then I think I am somewhere below Canal street. 

A bench I saw along the road on the East side, on 2nd or 1 st Avenue, I think!
